Obtaining a driver’s license which is valid in Poland involves several steps. First and foremost, you must deliver a sworn translation of your driver’s license to the relevant office.

While providing us with a foreign driver’s license, it is important to make a scan or a photograph of it against a white background, as the offices require that a stamped printout be attached to the translation.

Before arriving at the office, you need to prepare the appropriate documents:

  • an application for the exchange of a driver’s license,
  • a color, current photograph meeting the requirements for driver’s license photos,
  • an identity card or a passport and a document confirming your registered address,
  • certified translation of the driver’s license made by a sworn translator,
  • a photocopy of your current driver’s license.

 

Your application can be submitted in person at the relevant office or sent by mail. The issuance of the driver’s license is subject to a fee of 100.50 PLN. You can expect to wait for the issuance of the document for up to 9 business days.

Who is required to exchange a driver's license issued in another country?

The obligation to exchange a driver’s license applies to those individuals who received their document abroad and have been staying in the territory of Poland for more than 185 days. However, this obligation does not apply to individuals holding a driver’s license issued in a member state of the European Union, EFTA, the Swiss Confederation, and in the United Kingdom until December 31, 2020. In such cases, issuing a new driver’s license is possible, but the exchange of the document is voluntary.

Please bear in mind that the Department of Communication only accepts certified translations of driver’s licenses, which means translations done by a sworn translator and stamped with their seal, signature, and repertory number.

    To biuro tłumaczeń znalazłam przez przypadek w internecie na ostatnią chwilę kiedy musiałam zrezygnować z innego tłumacza. Nigdy nie spotkałam się z tak pomocnymi i fachowymi osobami jak państwo pracujący tam.
